Re: February 2005 Celebrity Birth List
The ones that caught my eye ...Alice Ann - I think Alice is sweet, but the combo as a whole is so ... no-nonsense. A little flair wouldn't hurt. And I loathe the spelling Ann. I was converted by A of Green Gable's theory at about age 10 :-)Arthur Elwen - I think Arthur is nice, in an unobtrusive sort of way. Elwen is awful ... Isn't it from Lord of the Rings? How dorky and unfortunate to bear. I see LotR names in the same vein as Anakin or any Trekky name ... Bad. Thank heavens it's a middle name.Elena - Nice pronounced eh-LAYN-uh, but Helena still has more character.Jack Daniel - Yikes! I already know a little boy with this combo, and everyone joked about it. Besides the whisky thing, both names are plain boring, especially Jack.Mona - Too similar to "moan". In fact, I typoed it as "moan" just there, and had to correct it. Besides, I think the Mona Lisa is an unattractive painting, and it reminds me of that too.Mya Rose - Very flimsy, but pretty.Thalia - This has grown on me. I used to struggle with the "Thal" sound ... Somehow it felt wrong, as if the "h" should be silent. But now I like. It's different but unpretentious.Violetta - gorgeous! I think this might catch on for English-speakers, Anglicised as "vye-uh-LETT-uh", if we get sick of Violet. (That'll take decades though ... Violet is only beginning to catch on now.)
