My grandmother was named Francesca. She went by Franca (frahn-kah, not frayn-kah).
I know a few people called her Francie or Frances too. (pronounces like France, the country).
Some others I have thought of:

Chessa
Chesca

I was thinking Francie myself :)
I loved Francie when I was a child, but I loved it as a full name. I was planning on having twin girls and naming them Francie and Frances.
