Well the nickname of 'Sandy' may be avoidable. So if you really dislike it, I think it would be wise to steer clear from the name all together.

It already IS a nickname and doesn't need one.
But I think Sandy is fine.

Most of the Sandra people I know or know of just go by Sandra. I do know one who goes by Sass, but although she carries it off well, I wouldn't recommend it.

Zanna is the only other one I can think of. Andy or Andra might work too.

Still, I find it refreshingly simple and sweet, like Susan. I would honestly just use Sandra all the time and forget the nickname.

I think of Sandra as a nickname in itself, so I don't even want to suggest one. I'm sure she'd get Sandy sometimes but I believe she could easily go by Sandra without any issues.

I think it's cute. There is a very nice teenage girl who works at the local library and her name is Sandra, and she isn't ever called anything but Sandra, so a nn is not automatic. (My stepfather's older sister is also Sandra, but she is always called Sandy, which I also think is cute.)

Sandra is a nice and underused name. However, I too don't like the nn Sandy. Where I'm from Sandy is often used as a full name and is considered trashy (together with names like Mandy, Cindy or Chantal).

I know a Sandra who goes by the nn Sasa (prn. Zah-zah). Maybe Sasha could also work.

I don't mind it but I find it a little dated. It's my mums name.
