Girl's name only,to me.
Tristan is one of my very favourite names - strictly on boys, and this spelling only. THE Tristan living in my head is tall, lean, has reddish-blond hair that is somewhat wavy, and very nice brown eyes. The reason for my detailed pic is that I used the name in a story ages ago :-)
Mns? Tristan Elijah, Tristan Elliot, Tristan Adair all sound nice to me. Valois was also a good (though a bit unusual) suggestion I've just read.
I hate it on girls. but then, there're not many stolen names I like...

What do you think about the name Tristan (b)? - I love it.
What would you imagine Tristan to be like? - Hmmm, I'm no good at this :-)
Also, What middle names would you consider for it? - Tristan Esme, Tristan Elijah (b); Tristan Isabelle / Isabella (g)
Would you ever consider it a girl's name? - Yes. I believe that you can honour a legend on either a boy or a girl, if the name's sound works on either (which in most cases it doesn't, but imo this is one where it does). Even in medieval times, names have been used across gender lines, and the obsession certain people here have with "stealing" just strikes me as a little ... well, obsessive :-S

Tristan is a name that has really grown on me. I used to find it trendy but now I like it.
I think a Tristan would either be the surfer guy type, great tan, blond hair, etc... or someone in a rock band. Just what I think of when I hear the name.
I wouldn't use it for a girl because it's not my style. I think the appeal comes from the fact that it's similar to the girls name Kristen which sounds more dated by now.

I love it on a boy, but don't like it at all on a girl. There's already Trista, Tristana, and even Tristina to choose from for girls; leave Tristan for the boys, please!
I like both Tristan and Tristram, and also the legit versions Drystan (Welsh), Tristán (Spanish), and Tristão (Portuguese). For girls, I can tolerate any of the above feminine forms, but I especially like Trista and Tristina.
Tristan's a romantic, masculine name that invokes both Arthurian legend and French royalty to me.

I love the name Tristan. Only this spelling, only on a boy. I'm not sure what kinda middle names you like, but there are plenty of possibilities w/this name.
What do you think about the name Tristan (b)? Love it.
Also, What middle names would you consider for it? George, Elliot, Jacob, Andrew, Francis, Philip, Joel, Kyle, Daniel, Blake, Michael, Zachary
Would you ever consider it a girl's name? NO!! There's no need to use the masculine since it already has a fem. form Trista.

Tristan makes me think of King Arthur's contemorary Tristram. I'd imagine a blond haired, vailant, chivalrous, but very easy prey of romantic women. I don't particualrly like or dislike hte name. I don't like it on a girl. Name her Kristen.

Tristan Valois
Tristan Lawrence
Tristan Michael

I love the name, but only for a boy! Never for a girl. Sorry, but I'm not good at picturing names.
