New BA
Someone I worked with had his first child, a girl, about two weeks ago. Today was his first day back at work, and the first thing I asked was of course "what's her name?". And I'm pleasantly surprised! They are naming her Noor. They thought it was going to be a boy, and had planned on using Ilon. Ilon is used in Sweden, although it's unusual. there's about 100 people in Sweden who has Ilon as their FN (boys and girls). He said they wanted unisex names. Another co-worker is currently pregnant with her second child, a boy. She already has a daughter named Iva. When we were talking about names, she said they had planned on using Blanka or Bianka originally but it didn't seem to fit once she was born. She also mentioned that she wanted to use Rosa as a middle name for this baby if it had been a girl. She didn't mention which boys names they were thinking about though.

Noor is nice. Are they Muslim? Noor seems to be a pretty common name among Muslims.

Yeah, Noor is lovely :)They are not Muslim. Don't know if they are religious or not, but if anything they're Christians.

Yay Noor, really nice name. I like Rosa a lot too. Do you know anything about Ilon? - it's not in the database.

Don't know much about Ilon, but I found this at a Swedish namesite:"
Ilon means "the best" (don't know what language???)
Ilon means light in GreekWould initially be able to stammer out the name of the city of Troy: Ilion.Derived from the name Ilona which is a Hungarian or Finnish form of Helena."
No idea if it's accurate or not

I misread Ilon as Ilan until I spotted your query - thanks!Ilan is in the db all right, and so it should be. Plus, among the Comments I found this:Variant spellings: Alon, Eilan, Eilon, Elan, Elon, Ilon.
-- Nisha 1/30/2013 How reliable Nisha might be, of course, one does not know. But it seems convincing. The other apparent alternative - a masculine version of Ilona - isn't very likely.

I find it far more likely that Ilon is a masculine version of Ilona. Ilon isn't pronounced the same as Alon, Eilon etc. It's more like EE-lon

I think Noor is a very pretty name. Good choice!

I really like Noor! They made a good choice. :) Iva is cute too, and I like Bianka. I wonder what they will name their boy.
