Paul and Saul

Love both. Like you, I used to hate Paul until I met two great Pauls.
If I had to choose between Saul and Paul I would rather use Saul. Paul is a name I enjoy seeing others use.

Paul is a name that I have loved for ever. It's very handsome and classic. I do know a Saul, who's about 38, and that has slightly tempered my previous dislike of the name, because I have a real live person to associate with it. Still, I'm still not enamoured of it for the reasons a previous poster has said.
I love Paul. It's my dad's name, he died when I was 14 and it has a very special meaning to me. Our second child will be called Paul. I like that it's got a classic feel. It used to be very popular but you don't see it that often on little boys now. It's timeless and cute.
Saul is really nice too. It's more unique but familiar at the same time. I like that it's biblical.

I like them both fairly well, but of the two, I like Paul the best. Because the New Testament Biblical Saul changed his name to Paul when he turned his life around, I tend to associate the name Paul with redemption and the willingness to give a second chance. Saul sounds a little stiffer and more like a pharisee. I have known a few Pauls who were nice fellows, but I haven't actually met a Saul so perhaps that is why it doesn't leave as friendly of an impression.
I like both names.
