Eugene and Eustace

They're not for me. Unattractive and uncool in a way that is not charming to me.
I would hate for my name to be Eustace. Eugene is better, a name that would strike me as uncommon but not odd if I heard it in real life, but I don't see myself falling in love with it. I do like Gene considerably more, though.

Love em! Totally useable. Why not?
I like Eugene... for a girl. I think it's got some edge then. But for a boy, it's kind of a joke name. Which is a shame, I do like it. It's such a lovely green colour.
I'll never be able to see Eustace and not think "There was a boy called Eustace [Clarence Scrubbs], and he almost deserved it". Besides, Eustache is way awesomer than Eustace!

Eugene is bearable, but only for the nn Gene, which is a nice, friendly uncle sort of name. Eugene alone is pretty dorky.
Eustace is just butt-ugly.

There are truckloads of Eugene people where I live, so it just seems production-line boring. It's dated, but not so dated that its owners are all extinct, and nobody would be surprised to meet a young one. It's not to my taste - don't like spondees much, and the EW sound is not encouraging.
Eustace? Could work for a droopy cartoon character or as a name chosen on ordination, but certainly not as a fn for daily use by a living child.
