I love both Lydia and Lucia, so they would be my pick. Lucy could be a cute nn for Lucia too. With big brother August, I think Lydia would make a lovely sibling set. :)
I think Lucia is the best here. Lucia nn Lucy is the best of both worlds. I adore Lydia, and it sounds good with August but Lucia is just a skoosh better. I'm not crazy about Iris. It's just one of those names that I see and I just shrug my shoulders at. Iris and August seem like a bit much too me as well, like too matchy.
My vote is definitely for Lucia, or Lydia!

Hm, Iris gets a strong showing
Thanks for the feedback. My husband and my perceptions of the the names are a bit different, so it's really interesting to see what other people's impression are.
Lucia is the new item to our list, and I've been the least sure how others perceive it. My husband is cagey, wanting Lucy, or Lucy as a nickname. Notably response to Lucia here are the most mixed. There's also the problem of us having an unusual very Germanic last name, which we want to complement but not overplay. Lucy clearly seems less controversial, at least in everyday use. Lucia nn Lucy certain leaves a girl some options.
Lydia is a long time like with me, it goes up and down with my husband.
Iris is my husband's favorite name. (Given half a moment, he'd write Rosemary on the list as well.) I really like Iris too, but was unsure of how it is perceived. Interestingly, it seems to get a strong response here that matches my husband's affection for it.
An interesting aside - to us, August is a Germanic "Augustus' and is very much a grandfather name. We get a bit of that response from people, but we underestimated how much people would perceive it as a word-name (the month!) or trendy (although they tend to like the trend the think they hear). For better or worse, I suspect we might get the same dynamic out of Iris - people will either hear it for the more Victorian name it was, or they'll hear it as the trend it's jump in popularity must signal. August and Iris can both make you think of ancient references or be "thing" names.
I worry slightly the Iris on a girl REALLY makes August sound like a month a name. It is a minor drawback though, since people think it anyway.
Lydia and August probably both names sound more traditional, at least while the kids are in the same room.
Dilemmas! Thanks for the feedback!

Lucia nn Lucy seems fine to me, even with a German last name. I'll go out on a limb here and assume it's something like Lautenschlaeger. Lucia Lautenschlaeger is very pleasing. Also, Lucia has been used in Germany for centuries. Even one of J.S. Bach's grandchildren was named Lucia.

*AS A COMBO, Lydia and August probably MAKE both names sound more traditional, at least while the kids are in the same room.
(I suppose one effect of the slightly trendier combo, August and Iris, is that both names have something of a vivacious quality...)

I love August Theodor!! My favourite of those names is definitely Iris, I think it would go well with August as well. I do also like Lydia though. August and Iris sounds very spunky while August and Lydia sounds more well-to-do.
I think Lydia, Lucy and Iris are all gorgeous. Lucia is nice too, but not a favourite of mine. Lucy is definitely my favourite, I love this name. August and Lucy would be really cute for siblings too.
I'd go for Lydia or Iris. They sounds the best with August. Personally I like Iris the most, so that's probably what I would have chosen.
I love your son's name. Theodor is one of my favorite names, and August is lovely as well.

Lydia: I automatically think brunette, someone with charm, but also mystery. I really like Lydia.
Lucia: I really just love this name. I do prefer it to the more common Lucy. I can see it fitting several personality types.
Lucy: I like it. It's sweet, but it is getting a bit common for me.
Iris: I love flower/floral names. Iris is no exception.

Lydia is a nice classic name that isn't too fashiony. I ran across a youth named Lydia and thought it seemed impressive, kind of similar to the impression of Amelia, maybe less uptight. It has a slight slickness about it, but not enough to bother me and make me think it's bad.
Lucia isn't too different from Lydia I guess, but it does sound more Italian, and has the obvious nickname. I'm personally not a fan of it because I just don't like the sound of Luci-names. I think anyone called Lucy should have a grown up name as her full name, though - Lucy by itself is too diminutive IMO.
Iris is more of a fashiony name like August is. I personally like it. I'm thinking you're making a choice between a classic name and a fashiony one. It's hard because all the names seem fresh. I suggest you think about people you know personally who have classic names vs. trendier ones, and use that to figure out which is most your style - trying to forget what time it is right now.
classic names like Lydia and Lucia: Julia, Katarina, Laura, Maria, Claudia, Nina, Irene, Diane
nickname names for classic names, like Lucy: Sally, Jenny, Meg, Katie, Tina, Becky, Vicky, Liz, Carrie
fashiony names like Iris: Erin, Crystal, Heather, June, April
Personally I lean towards Iris, but I think I'd rather actually be named Lydia.

I would choose Lucy for my own child; Iris for yours.
Lydia: Pride and Prejudice. Sharp and old-fashioned, but not bad.
Lucia: St. Lucia's day, I pronounce it Lu-chee-ah. Sweet but not frilly.
Lucy: my childhood best friend, preppy and cheerful.
Iris: rainbow goddess, very free-spirited and vague.
I like Lucia best, probably.

I love Lucia with the nickname Lucy best. Lucia is just so pretty and Lucy so simple and sweet.
I think Lydia fits very well with August. It's a bit older-school sounding, like August. A very nice name.
Iris works too, I just don't like it enough. To me it also looks a bit short next to August - but that might not be an issue for you.
Truthfully, there is absolutely nothing wrong with any of your options.

Lydia: pretentious and flimsy. Not a good blend!
Lucia: too many possible pronunciations.
Lucy: gorgeous, reliable, classic.
Iris: one of the nicest flower names, with elegance, dignity and grace.

Lydia: Sweet girl, with perhaps a rebellious streak a la Pride and Prejudice.
Lucia: Exotic name, regal sounding.
Lucy: Sweet and timid.
Iris: Intellectual, cultured.
I think Lucia would be out with a very German last name. If it was kind of well assimilated like Schmidt or Schultz I don't think I would be as concerned. My personal favorite with August would be Iris, but if you are concerned about having two word names and appearing to themey, then my second choice would be Lydia.

Lydia - I quite like this one. It's kind of old-fashioned, but pretty. I like the nn Lyddie.
Lucia - This is Lucy wearing a frilly flouncing skirt and a snobbish expression
Lucy - Adore Lucy ^_^ It's so sweet and classical, without any of the borningness of Mary or Anne.
Iris - Hmm. I guess it's kind of pretty... I don't really like it though. I know its a flower, but there's also the iris of people's eyes and it's kind of weird to have the same name as a bodypart.
