Name for a transgender (MtF)
Hello,I'm transgender, male to female and I'm having trouble deciding a good name for me.
My "old" masculine name can't be feminized sadly. I was born in a country where we speak French, so I would prefer a French name. Here's a little list of names I saved up for later:
- Chantal / Chantale
- Carole / Caroline / Carolane / Carolanne
- Alice (I find it way too cute for me however)
- MarianneMy mother told me that she liked Marie-Philippe as a possible name for my younger sister, but she finally chose Laurence. It's kinda long. It also sounds terrible in English (sounds like Mary-Philipey). Any suggestions ?Thanks

Juliette
Cyrielle
Maxine
idk.... I like a lot and I can't think.Let us know what you decide please?

Unfortunately, Chantal Marie-Philippe is an "impossible name", from what I know it doesn't exist. I wish I didn't have to choose my name, it's very difficult and it feels unnatural. >.

doesn't exist?I'm not sure I understand what you mean. You need a name that is already borne by someone else?

I would rather choose a name that somebody already has, yes. Because having an unique name (that no one else has) would probably get me too much attention, which I don't really want. Honestly, "Chantal Marie-Philippe" would make people laugh at me badly. >.

Okay, I don't understand the culture, I don't think. That wouldn't make people laugh here. I'm confused. But good luck?

Hmmm I agree that here it wouldn't make you stand out. Or at least not anymore than having the name Chantal would since Chantal is such an uncommon name. Most people don't actually know your middle name so it's not going to make you stand out anymore or less. Most people who aren't name nerds don't pay much attention to combos. Most people are going to give the most attention to your first name and anything uncommon will make you stand out.

Thanks for the responses so far.Fictionlover94: That question, I might be unable to answer it. Just be careful: tranny is actually a derogatory term, just like fa***t (censored) for gay people for example. I do like the name Alice, I just have the feeling it doesn't suit me. >.<ADT: Matilde is an interesting one too.Serafina Starstrider: I never heard of someone called Marie-Alice actually. Marie-Anne is a great alternative to Marianne, however. (^^)kvpp88: Caroline and Marianne are popular, it seems. :P

Well I know a lot of different Mary- names and Marie in French is like Mary. I know an Anne-Marie but they don't pronounce Marie the French way. I know a Mary-Alice, a Mary-Therese, a Mary-Catharine, and other ones.

Indeed, the pronunciation of "Marie" in French is more like "Mah-ree" instead of May-Ree. Therese is a very old name where I live, just like "Gertrude" or "Henriette". hehe.

What about Marie-Alice?I like Caroline, Carolanne, and Marianne. You might also consider Marie-Anne to make the spelling honor your mom. Or would it be Marie-Ann? I don't know French so I'm not certain how most of these would be pronounced.
