The home page has Melchior as the name of the day. Thoughts, opinions, usable, combination suggestions? I won't be using it on a real kid so feel free to make any suggestions as whimsical as you'd like. The name first came to my attention while I was watching the Bette Davis version of "The Corn is Green." There's a minor character named Melchior. When another character said his name with a Welsh accent, I was a goner. I thought it was a Welsh name until I did some digging. My cat is named Fergus Melchior. :0)

I like it as a GP but wouldn't use it in real life. To me, it's very associated with the character Melchior Gabor from Spring Awakening, which is my favorite musical.

I saw it as the name of the day, and although I knew of it, I'd never really thought about it. But it kind of grew on me just then, and I decided I liked it's 'dark', gloomy, slightly sinister image, as well as its quirkier and somewhat antiquated side which occasionally peeks through. If that makes sense. Anyway, it might be a new favourite in the making, and I've already added it to my NL. I mean, I already love the names of the other two kings - Jasper / Casper is amazing, and Balthazar is one of my name obsessions at the moment. Although, now that I think of it, those are recent discoveries for me too. Anyway, woo, Melchior! Combo ideas:

I like Melchior when pronounced like in Dutch. I hate it when it's pronounced with the "k" sound in the middle, as English speaking people tend to do.
I'm not sure if I'd actually consided using it. I wouldn't want my child to end up being called Mel.

Woww Melchior is seriously cool. It's deep, purpley indigo and somber. It's halfway between the lighter-hearted Malachi and the almost depressive Mordecai. When you said you loved it in a Welsh accent, the combo Melchior Morcant came to mind. Very storybook, though ^_^"I also like...

Melchior is one of the major characters in the play and rock musical Spring Awakening. It's also one of my ancestor's names and I find it to be a very nice sound.

I kind of like this name, but it sounds sinister to me, despite apparently being the name of one of the Magi. It makes me think of dark knights and warlocks, possibly because it kind of reminds me of Mordred for some reason. I do like that you can get the nickname Mel out of it without using Melvin, though.A bearer of the name is Melchior Zwyer, a storyboard artist for Generator Rex, Young Justice, and Legend of Korra (he also directed a few episodes of the latter). I'm pretty sure he also did some work on animated movies, like Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon. So the name is usable, at least.

It also feels pretty dark for me, but I realized it's because it makes me think of Melkor. The Swedish (Melker) and Spanish (Melchor) variations definitely make my mind go straight to it. I still think it's a pretty awesome name, even with the dark/evil association.

I get the darker vibe from Melchior too. But that's what makes me like it, as with Malachi / Malachy. That's neat about Melchior Zwyer. I doff my hat to his parents. :0)Thanks for the input. It's always much appreciated, good or bad.

Yes, as a mn it drips with the exotic, spicing up almost any fn wonderfully. For examples, see your entire list. :0) I'm trying to pick out my favorites, but it's so difficult. I suppose I have to give it to Tavish Melchior for gutsiness and whimsicality. (Are those real words?) Thanks! :0)
