Love!!!
I read a book recently with a character in it called Gloriana, nn Glory. The name really fit her character (an intimidating brothel madam). I have trouble seeing it on anyone else now! It's not my type of name anyway, though, but I like Gloriana Violet. The book is called Razorhurst, by Justine Larbalestier.
I can't see it on a real person at all. It's ugly with delusions of grandeur.
And I'm sure Jennifer (posted below) is right and it was a nn for Elizabeth the First. One of the Elizabeth queens, anyway.
The nn Glory seems awful too. I got a vague memory of people saying "glory-hole" and sniggering, which is probably where that feeling comes from.
If I was unlucky enough to be called Gloriana I'd probably go by Rhian and never admit what my name really was ;)
