WDYT of Maya?
The recent death of Maya Angelou has had me thinking about the name Maya a lot. She is a woman I had a huge amount of admiration for yet I never gave the name a lot of thought until now.
What do you think of Maya?
Do you think it could fit with sisters with names such as Edith, Rose, and Bess? I know it has a lot of history to it but it feels more modern than my usual taste!

It's pretty. My main concern would be the fact that it can be pronounced two different ways, and I think you'd often have to correct people - that's not a massive problem though.
With that sibset, I think May would fit better. Maya feels much more modern than Edith, Rose and Bess but May would fit perfectly. And you could call her Maya as a nickname!

I think Maya would stick out with sisters named Edith, Rose and Bess. Edith Maya could work as a combo though imo.
Maya is pretty enough, but it's so common here (I live in Australia if that matters), nowadays that I'm getting sick of hearing it.
I agree with you that it sounds quite modern even with the history tied to the name. While I don't think it's the most out of place name next to sisters named Edith, Rose and Bess, it's not a name I'd be expecting to hear in the sibset.

I live in Australia and I don't think I've ever met a Maya...how strange! Lots of Mia's running around though.
It also has been growing on my a lot lately, but I would never use it. I feel like it would be out of place with names like Edith, Rose, and Bess. It makes me think of the Mayan civilization.
I like Maya well enough. I just prefer the more classic Maia. What I don't care for is the other trendy spellings: Mya, Myah (my dd's friend), Miah (which really looks confusing, doesn't it?).
Maya may not fit with Edith, however, it works with Rose and Bess. BTW, is Bess short for Elizabeth? It works with that as well.

I like Maya an awful lot more than I like Mia. Not a name I'd choose but it is pretty.
It seems out of place with Edith and Bess, less so with Rose.
Maya Angelou's real name was Marguerite. Which I think is even prettier than Maya and fits in better with that group of sisters. She got the name Maya because when her brother was little he called her My-a sister."

Agreed. Marguerite is fetching.
It sure is :) We have a Marguerite in the family though so that's out unfortunately
