I'm with you. I think Josie is adorable but don't really care for Josephine because I hear 'Joe's a fiend.' So I've thought of this before and the only name I could come up with is Josceline. It's closer to the original French name, it contains the s and I pronounce it with the same long o sound as in Josie.
