Josie as a nickname
I like Josie as a nickname but not a full first name - any suggestions for first names besides Josephine??

My cousin's name is Jocelyn and she goes by Josie.

I'm with you. I think Josie is adorable but don't really care for Josephine because I hear 'Joe's a fiend.' So I've thought of this before and the only name I could come up with is Josceline. It's closer to the original French name, it contains the s and I pronounce it with the same long o sound as in Josie.

Joanne, I suppose. Joanna. Joan. And maybe Jocelyn at a stretch - it usually shortens to Jossie, but Josie would be much nicer.

Well, just about any Jo name could conceivably be shortened to Josie, it's just that Josephine does it the most neatly.
Jocelyn, which doesn't even begin with the long o sound, could also work. It was actually the first one that came tmind when I read your question.

I want to use Josie as a nickname for Joanna, which I hope is not too much of a stretch.

A stretch, admittedly, but it doesn't hurt to mention it---perhaps Jacinta, a name I like. First syllable starts with a J and ends in the S sound, same as Josephine. Also, I think Josie could conceivably be used as a nickname for Joanna or Joanne. Jo has been used as a nickname for those names, and adding the "see" sound at the end of it isn't too much of a stretch, I don't think, just seems to be further endearing.

First thought is Joscelin... then I did a search for Jos* to see if there was anything else and there wasn't really, unless you're cool with a variant of Josephine like Josefina, Josefa, Josiane, etc. There's Josune and Josette too... those were the only ones I could think of/find tbh. Maybe someone else can get more creative lol I guess technically you could use it a cutsie nickname for any "Jo" name though tbh

I second Jocelyn (or alternate spellings). Had a good friend with the name (and nickname). She also went by Jo-Jo.
