I find it pretentious and silly. To my knowledge, it hardly if ever happens where I live, so I'm not habituated.
Skye to me suggests the island, not a female sky! And I heartily laugh at
Skyler and
Skylar, though
Schuyler might be passable in countries where people don't make it sound like
Skyler.
What have you been reading - scifi, fantasy, gritty modern? The only fictional
Sky I've ever encountered was the male lead in Guys and Dolls, taken from a
Damon Runyon story; in his case it was a nn based on his extravagant gambling habit, and made total sense.
