Melody
Melody really is a beautiful name, in sound and meaning. I wonder why it has never been very popular. Any thoughts? What do you think of it?

I am one who considers a name more beautiful after having met someone with that name. The other day standing in the checkout lane I met a mother and her 1 1/2 year old named Melody with sparkling green eyes and absolutely adorable. I really hadn't considered Melody as a name but it has been ringing in my ear since then and it was refreshing not to hear Emma, Isabella, Olivia and so on. She also had a sister named Summer.

I think its because it's also a word. It's got a pretty sound; maybe Melanie or Elodie as alternatives? :)

Melody is pretty and I do like it. It's just something I'd never consider because I'd be afraid it's a name people wouldn't take seriously (not unlike Daisy). I much prefer Melanie for that very reason. BTW, I've never known a soul by the name.

Melody is okay I guess. It doesn't really appeal to me. I wonder if it's the word-name part of it that has kept it from popularity. There are some word-names that have become popular, but maybe the general perception is that they are a bit tacky? I don't know.

I've known two Melodys though one is a Melodyie.
It's a pretty sound, but in my ear it sounds so much like Melanie that it's hard for me to distinguish between the two names. I really like Melanie but am fairly lukewarm on Melody.
When I was very little I had a baby doll named Melody (she came with that name) who made squeaky "musical" notes when you squeezed her arms, legs and belly.
