Cecily or Cecilie?
Naming my daughter Cecily, but can't decide which spelling to use? I would love to hear your opinions :) Also, are there any other spellings of this name you know? :)

Cecily- the more traditional spelling will get people to pronounce the name correctly. People might mistake Cecelie for Cecelia.

Thank you all so much for all your advice! Definitely using Cecily now :)Also, thanks for pointing out the likely confusion with 'Cecile' on the 'Cecilie' spelling! Never noticed that.Xx

If you're going to use the French pronunciation, then you should certainly go for Cecilie, and also prepare for a lifetime of explanations. But it isn't easy making French noises in an English environment! I'd stick to lovely Cecily. As for other spellings, there's Cicely or Cicily, but Sis isn't the best short form in the world. Cecily was your first choice for a reason - stay with it.

Cecily.Cecilie just looks silly.

Cecily is much better. It is easy to understand the pronunciation.Cecilie is pronounced with four syllables in Norwegian, Danish, German, and Czech. So, it might be confusing to pronounce it like Cecily.

I love Cecily! If I saw Cecilie, I might misread it as Cecile and pronounce it say-SEEL instead of SES-i-lee.

Ah, I really like Cecily! It's one of my favorites. Beautiful name! I think it's fine as it is. Something about Cecilie just doesn't look right. Somehow I think the Cecil looks more prominent, and it seems to distract and take away from the name's simplistic elegance. Or maybe I'm just rambling about stuff that makes no sense. (hearty laughter) Who knows. I do love Cecily, though.I've seen Secily, I think. It isn't bad, but I do prefer Cecily.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I misread your post title as "Cecily or Cecile" at first. That second I in Cecilie just about disappears on my little screen. So, I vote Cecily. It's clearer.

I like Cecily better. The second one makes me think it's a variant of Cecelia. ETA: In fact, Cecilie is a Norwegian variant of Cecelia.
