Salka is a name we discovered through the Icelandic band Sigur Ros. They have a really beautiful song called Salka, which is also an Icelandic girls name. It's a Nordic and Slavic pet name of Sara/Sarah. A few years later someone told me it's also a Hebrew pet form of Salomé.

Icelandic Nobel Prize author Halldór Laxness wrote a novel called Salka Valka (I haven't read it).

It's a lovely name. And I like that it rhymes with the Swedish word svalka, which means "coolness" as in "the coolness of the summer evening"...
