Lavinia
What do you think of Lavinia? The nickname Vinnie? Do you think the nickname Vinnie is inevitable, at least part of the time?I love it but don't think I'd use it because of fear of the nickname Vinnie.

I adore Lavinia! I don't think any nickname is inevitable if you enforce use of the full name or of a preferred nickname. Nevertheless, I find Vinnie quite cute.

I've only known one person named Lavinia. She's around 50 years of age. Every time I see her, I want to call her Olivia for some reason. :-) Can't say I like the name since the VIN sound is stressed and I really dislike Vin or Vinnie. As far as I know, this woman isn't called Vinnie. Then again, I've only known her professionally.

I think Lavinia is really pretty. It's on my list. I've always felt hesitant about ever actually using it because of the Vinnie nickname, but someone mentioned Liv as a nn recently and I like that or Livvie, as mentioned below.

I like Lavinia a lot and the antique feeling it has. But Vinnie completely ruins it. I don't think it's unavoidable, though- it wouldn't stop me from using it. I'd just correct people if they tried to nickname her.

I always have thought Lavinia was a sleazy, slimy, slick sort of name. And insubstantial at the same time. I don't think Vinnie is inevitable at all.

I never thought of Vinnie as a nn for Lavinia. It's a name I never really thought about having a nn. I like it, but then I like names with a history, especially if it's not common but still usable. I probably would have used Lav as the nn. I don't think Vinnie is inevitable, but now I'm kinda liking it, in case your little lady turns out to be a tomboy.

I like Lavinia! Ever since I found out I have an ancestor with that name, I've had a soft spot for it. I like how sharp and dark green it is.I'm not sure if Vinnie is inevitable...would it be better if it was spelled Vini? That seems a little less hoodlum. Or do you think people would just immediately assume it's Vinnie?I actually like the Vinnie potential; it gives Lavinia some teeth. And better Vinnie than Lav, I think!

It's rather pretty, but it doesn't excite me, there is something about it I dislike, but I can't put my finger on what it is. It is elegant, just nms. :)

I think it's really ugly and liver spotty. Vinnie is all boy to me, but I imagine on the right girl I could warm up to it. Vinnie is definitely not inevitable.

I said in a thread below that Olivia sounded pretty and elegant, but also cold and slithery. Lavinia sounds cold and slithery but not pretty or elegant. It's just ugly and hateful-sounding, if a name can be said to sound hateful. Lavinia beats her servants and wears puppy-skin capes like Cruella Deville.I don't know that Vinnie is inevitable as a nn, it's not like we have lots of Lavinias to go by. But it's awful anyway. It sounds like a Mafia boss.
