I like Hazel and don't really care for Iris, but I don't think that either one is too dated. In fact, I think Hazel is on its way to becoming pretty popular. If they'd been popular in the 1940s and 1950s, then they'd be too dated, but by that time Hazel had fallen from favor and I don't think Iris was any too popular then, either. I think either one is fine to use today. It's funny, they are both botanical, but they have a different feel. Hazel is 1920s flapper and Iris is cold and sophisticated.
