Re: Leah?
in reply to a message by LMS
I find myself crushing on Leah again lately. I love the sound and pronounce it with the long e sound although I do know a family with a dd named Leah Rose and they pronounce it LAY-uh which they tell me is the most correct pronunciation (this they were told by someone very knowledgeable in the Hebrew language so whatever). I like both pronunciations yet prefer LEE-uh. I don't care for the h on the end yet there's no spelling I like better. Lea is confusing although legit and Leia reminds me of Princess Leila. Lia is nice but the spelling? Meh. I picture someone named Leah to be very sweet and grounded. My fave Leah combos are: Leah Madeleine, Leah Marielle and Leah Juliet.

I've heard the Hebrew is Le'ah, therefore there is a tiny pause in the middle and it is more like Lay-uh. But, I don't know much about Hebrew.

You're probably right. I was just annoyed by this couple who went to the trouble of pronouncing Leah thusly while their other dd, Ariel, was just AIR-ee-el rather than the Hebrew AR-ee-el. I mean, if they went to the trouble to get Leah correct, they should have at least made the effort with Ariel (spelled it Arielle at the very least). It just makes sense to me, lol.
