Maja is very, very popular here. I cringe when I hear it, because it feels like pretty much all girls under the age of 10 are named Maja. Maya is a whole different name to me, though. I know it's pronounced the same and nobody would be able to tell Maya from Maja on the playground, but still... the spelling makes it so much more appealing. I like Maya, but I dislike Maja (and Maia).
