I had a dream with Tara in it, and in the dream it was... soooo beautiful to me. My mind kept hiccuping on how wonderful it was. It was this stunning kaleidoscope of a name. Somehow it sounded so stunning. The thing is, consciously, I think Tara is fine but boring and rather dated, tacky, even. It's very far from horrid, but I group it with 'Jade' and 'Ashley' in terms of tackiness (i.e, rather incredibly tacky) and its sound is possibly-but-not-quite pretty and very tinny. It's still not a bad name, and I don't dislike it. Sometimes I want to like it. Sometimes I think I could like it, if I could get the idea of tangerine skin, botoxed lips and bleached hair out of my head. The sound isn't even as heartbreakingly beautiful as it somehow was in my dream. It's nice-ish, but hollow and uninteresting. So, yeah, it's okayish. I would never ever use it, and I suspect I dislike it, consciously at least. It does raise questions about my unconscious mind, though.

A nice name for a plantation. Damn, I think I've gone with the wind!

I like the name but I have never met a Tara that I like! I prefer the spelling Terra. That looks soo much better to me. I wouldnt use it personally because I just dont think it evokes enough emotion one way or another. The name just doesnt stand out for any reason.

Like, a little. I've known a Tara (prn. TAIR-a) and a Tara (TAHR-a). I like the TAIR-a prn better, even though it is less intuitive. I think the name is sort of sharp and mysterious sounding. I think it is dated, but not so much that it has lost all its romance like Dawn or Lisa. In an American accent, Tara (TAIR-a) sounds like "terror" in a British accent. That's not a good thing when you're an American Tara visiting England, but whatever, I guess.

I like it. I've used it for a character in a story.

It's a nice name, a bit dated but I still like it.

Indifferent?I had a teacher in secondary school with this name - not that we called our teachers by their first names - but I never thought it suited her. She was always really enthusiastic, to the point where she annoyed everyone, and I feel that Tara is... Cold, somehow.
I find Cara to be friendlier, and Clara more still.

Feels fake to me, and I always hear the swelling sounds of the GWTW theme music. So I'd find it difficult to take a human Tara seriously.

I like Tara a lot. It's dated but it's a nice name and I have only good associations with it. Two of the nicest women I know are named Tara :)

It's not a name that I've ever liked enough to actually want to use myself, but I don't mind it. I prefer TER-a to TAR-a. TAR-a sounds a bit too harsh to me, and it reminds me of the word "tar", but it's still a decent name.

I've always liked Tara. Certainly, I like the way it looks. I don't like how it has two pronunciations and that it seems dated (well, it actually IS dated). It's not something I'd use, however, I don't mind it at all.

I like it. I'm in favor of any name that comes so close to the pretty-certainly-but-so-overused-I'm-ready-to-throw-up Sarah/Sara, and yet isn't pretty-certainly-but-so-overused-I'm-ready-to-throw-up Sarah/Sara.

Dislike. For one, no one can ever agree on pronunciation. Is it tare-uh or tar-uh? Either way, I don't like the sound. It seems like the name of a flimsy bird-like girl who is too meek to stand up for herself. Or someone who is on the periphery of the "cool people" in school but can't break through because of some oddness about her.

Sorry, I'm not a fan. I never know whether to say TAIR-a, TARR-a, or ta-RA, but the parents or bearer of the name always seem to act as if the pronunciation is so obvious and I just have a pea-brain. It's left a bad taste in my mouth, to say the least.Ignoring those associations, I still find the name to be far too plain and abrupt. The spelling Terra improves the name slightly for me, but I keep imagining a tough, butch woman with no manners, the kind who tracks mud into your living room, helps herself to your food, gets crumbs all over herself, and then wipes her cheesy, salty fingers all over your chesterfield. On the good side of things, I don't find it dated and it's not a predictable choice.

Loathe it, personally. I find it quite harsh sounding, and very seventies.

I like it better than Sara but not as much as Kara. It's not as pallid as Sara but much more dated to the eighties/seventies than Kara.
