I want to like it, I'm not sure why. But instead I hear militant and think of millipedes *shudder* I don't hate it though, and I appreciate it's retro clunky vibe.

I like Millicent. I like that it's no frills, and unapologetic about being old fashioned. I'm not as big on Millie, though. I'd probably call her Minnie instead.

I used to think of Millicent as a stuffy old lady name that would forever remind me of yellowed lace, attic dust, and the stench of mothballs. However, I started working with an incredibly wonderful Millicent this last summer and we've gotten to be good friends. Even though she usually goes by Milli, I see Millicent as more youthful and fun loving now, by association.Funny how that works out!

I'm going to go with hate. But that is a little strong so maybe strongly dislike. It's in the category of ugly names like Gertrude and Dorothy. Just not a nice sound. The nn Millie redeems it a little though

It's one of those ones that I can't figure out if I like or not.

I love it. I also think that Millie is a cute nickname.

This is so funny, because I've been thinking about Millicent lately and have found a growing love for it.Actually, I've thought about it before, but it's only now that I fell for it.So, there's my answer to your question. :)

I like it, but I don't love it. I hate the NN Millie, though.

I wouldn't say I hated it, but I sure don't like it. It sounds so posh and prissy, like the annoying girl in the upscale school in some 1950's British kids' book, the character who was always tattling to the teacher and bragging about her new horse or something. And Melicent looks like a mistake, and reminds me of those annoying people who pronounce milk more like "melk."

I don't mind it at all, but definitely prefer just Milly or Millie.

I grew up with people thinking this was my name. "Oh you're called Millie, is that Millicent or Amelia?" Drove me nuts, but between the two I'd have rather been Millicent - though I'm perfectly fine with "Just Millie" too. My sister calls me this as a pet name, much as I call her Eleanor (though her name is Ellie). I like it but I think it'd be hard to carry in real life.

I don't mind Millicent but I don't like the nickname Milly. Milly is a dog's name. Therefore I would not use Millicent.

YES, I've actually started to like this name. I used to think it was awful and witch and ridiculously old-fashioned, but I reckon it kinda sounds nice now, once I get past the witchiness. I actually know a little girl called Millicent who goes by Millie.

Love.I like Melicent / Mellicent even more, because you can't get "Millie" from it. Anyway, it's more authentic to me because the M_L part is from the same root as AMELIA. Millicent looks like it means "one thousandth of a cent"Can't stomach Melisande.

That's it! One thousandth of a cent. You are so right, another thing that it reminds me. Why I want to like it, but it reminds me of too many things that it's not and just leaves me feeling a little confused.

Oh my God, you've just made me realise what it is about this name that I don't like, it actually does sound like a thousandth of a cent! Now I can't see anything else

And now you've made me realize it's why I don't like the name MILLIE!
A "millie" feels like a disappearingly small fraction among 999 other disappearingly small fractions. It's so extremely cute, that I lost it.

So true. We have to use milli Q water in the science labs which is just like really pure water, and that's all I can think about now

Don't love Millicent but if I had to choose between this and Mildred, I'd embrace this wholeheartedly. It just has a really old feel to it. Not just retro. Old.

LOVE. Love love love. One of my all time faves and would definitely be a contender for any future daughter of mine. It isn't a name I usually put on my 'top' lists, but it has been one of the most consistent 'fringe' names on my list pretty much since I started loving names in early childhood. I could realistically see myself with a daughter named Millicent.I know some find it ugly but I genuinely find it so pretty. It has this delicate sound to it but it also has a little bit of 'oomph' and strength with the strong -t ending, as opposed to the -a or -ee endings that are so trendy right now. I love the nn Millie as well. Yeah, I'm a fan.

I guess it's okay. Millie is an okay nickname, too.
