I love Luna. Unfortunately, she's easily changeable to Lunacy and Lunatic. I decided from thence on that it is mostly suited as a middle name.

I love Luna. Character-wise I'm reminded of Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter or Princess Luna from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

I don't mind it, but it does remind me of "lunatic" which is not a good thing really!

Well, I have a 6 year old daughter, so my mind automatically goes to My Little Pony... Princess Luna/Nightmare Moon ;)

Aside from that, I have to say I've never been a fan, it just reminds me too strongly of all things lunar, plus the "loon" sound makes it seem a bit dippy.

I love Luna, I woulnd't be brave enough to name my child that, but maybe for a dog. I would love to meet a Luna

I like the name, but don't count on me producing combos.

I think it's cute. Very Harry Potter, which is not necessarily a bad thing. There's the obvious luna-tic, sure, but I don't think it's a big problem. You could teach your kid to laugh it off, no big deal.

I can't decide why I don't like this name. I sort of do. I want to, because it means moon and is nice and simple. But ... the sound of it just doesn't give me warm name-fuzzies. It's vaguely like Lucy or Luellen or Luann, it has that Lugawkiness. I named a character Cluna once, in order to get that effect. And it always reflects moonlight from the word "loony," which doesn't make it more evocative for me ... it just makes it seem dippy and self-conscious, like Ember or Raven. It's okay, just doesn't work for me very well.

I like Luna a lot! Other than liking the sound of it, it also has lots of nice associations for me - the fact that it's Latin (one of my favourite languages), its meaning of course, and the characters in both Sailor Moon and Harry Potter. I think it's too short for a first name and would only use it as a middle name, but that's just my personal preference.

I think it's going to get a lot more standard in the coming years, and I'm glad. It's a nice name and it represents something very nice. In my mind I've forcibly put it into a category with names like Clara, Martha, and Grace, where it stands out a little but FITS.

Luna is one of our picked out names, Luna Noelle.
We like the sound of Luna Skye as well, but didn't like combination of the meanings.

And it's strangely honouring for me. I've always found Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter very inspiring and she learnt me some valuable lessons, however cheesy that may sound.
I can't use it, though. I have two acquaintances called this and it would sound a bit odd if I named my daughter Luna. And the Dutch pronunciation doesn't really appeal to me; it sounds more like LEW-nah or LUGH-nah (As in Hugh) as opposed to LOO-nah. I can't really explain it.
