Aloysius
Do you think Aloysius is usable? Do you like it and does it have any image for you?
Replies
It's squishy...both the sound and the image I get.
I think it's usable, but I'm glad it rarely is.

Aloysius (prn. ah-lo-EE-zee-uws) was my grandfather's mn. He was a quiet and serious man, so that's the image I associate with this name. I think it might be a bit much as a fn but I can definitely see it as a mn.
I think it's usable, I actually quite like it. When I think of the name Aloysius I think of a little blonde boy, or a very intellingent young man.
I just gave my iPod this name.
I had to reset it, and when it asked me what I would like to call it I chose Aloysius. I just like the sound of it.
Sure, I think it's usable. If it's too much of a mouthful, he could always go by Al or Allie (I think more guys should be named Allie).

I sure wouldn't want to be called Aloysius. It's over the top and comical. Probably that's why it was used on Sesame Street as Mr. Snuffleuppagus's first name.
Aloysius is just my cup of tea. I love (obscure) medieval saint names like Ignatius, Xavier, Boniface, etc. And this one has an easy nn if he doesn't get the cool factor of Aloysius: Al.
Plus, just saying the whole thing out loud makes me happy, "Aloysius, Aloysius, Aloysius." Love it.
Image? Not really. I try not to. If I were pushed, I'd say the image is one of intelligence and cleanliness, if that helps. :-)

Aloysius...rhymes with delicious...old and stately...pretentious perhaps..
But a little bit of pretention never hurt nobody! If Atticus is usable, then Aloysius is usable. A bit less easy to pronounce, but we can all learn something new. I don't particularly like it, but it would be pretty cool to hear on a playground!
