I don't hate it, but I do feel like the name is cheapened without that O. It's not nearly as appealing, visually, as Phoebe. My niece is a Phoebe, and my brother and SIL have been surprised by how many people try to spell it Phebe. They call Phebe the "Phoebe For Dummies" version. I think that's a bit harsh since the spelling has some history (Shakespeare, the bible, our own family tree), but I get their point. Phebe does seem a bit like a stab-in-the-dark spelling by someone who has never seen Phoebe in print.
