Nickname for Scarlett?
Can Cat be a nick name for Scarlett? Wdyt? If you dislike please give examples of names you like Kat being a nickname for but bear in mind I am looking for trendy/ unusual names rather then classics. My mothers name is Kathy and if I had a little girl (future) I would like to use Kat in her honor. Kathy is her full name and Gay is her middle name. My sons are Killian and Lucan so I think Scarlett fits. Thanks for your opinions.

I don't think you could actually derive Cat or Kat from Scarlett, but nor do I think it matters. Cats are beautiful, elegant and pleasant animals and Cat is perfectly acceptable as a nn for a person. It doesn't have to be a nn formed from that person's name. The easiest would be to use Scarlett Kathy!

I think it's too much of a stretch unless you give her a Cat- or Kat- middle name.Cat-/Kat- names:
Katerina / Katarina
Katrina
Katalina
Kateri
Katalin / Kattalin
Katia / KatyaI think I'd go with Arlie as a nickname for Scarlett.

Carly/Carlie

Nope, I don't think Cat works as a nickname for Scarlett. There have been some good Cat-/Kat- suggestions already in the previous responses. All I have to add is that Kat/Cat would also work as initials, if you are willing to use a three-name combo like Christine Alice Tania or something.

Cat might work for Scarlett. But Carly would work better. (I also like Scarlet a little better than Scarlett).Names that could have the nickname Kat: Katherine, Katrina, Katinka, Katya, Katara, Katalin, Katalina, Katalyn, Katline, Katryna, Katia, Katka, Katniss, Katlia, Katira, Katina, Katryn, Katell, Kateri, Katica, Kathleen, Katka, Katja?
A lot of those might be too classic though.

Cat seems a stretch. Lettie and Carlie seem a better fit.

I think Kat/ Cat only works for forms of Katherine and Katniss. Letty or Cary (pn. CAR ee) would work as a nn for Scarlett.

I suppose a nn could be anything even if it's not related to the name in any way whatsoever. Still, Cat as a nn for Scarlett seems like a huge stretch to me. I don't think many would understand it or be able to connect the dots at first. The only nns for Scarlett I can think of are Scar (shudder!), Arlie and Lettie.Re: nns for Kat, most of the full forms are versions of Katherine which I know isn't trendy or unusual, but if you look hard enough, you may find a version of the name that isn't used very often:Katerina
Katrina
Katrin
Katia / Katya (even though that's a diminutive for Ekaterina / Yekaterina)
KateriHope this helps.

Scarlett nn Cat is a big stretch, but really anything goes as a nn. I know a Robert who always goes by Buddy and a Gene who always goes by Trey, and the only trouble is that they have to explain to everyone how they got their nn's. I personally like Kat much more than Cat. I would use it as a nn for Katherine or Katarina, but there's also Katrina, Caitlin, Catelina, etc. Maybe Scarlett Kathy or Sarlett Mother's-Maiden-Name to honor instead?

I don't really see Cat coming out of Scarlett, but it could work.

I like Letty or Scarliefor Scarlett though I wouldn't use. How about Katie Gail, Catriona Gail or Katinka Gail

I would say that no, you shouldn't use cat as a nickname for Scarlett. It is too much of a stretch. You could however, call her Scarlett Catherine or Scarlett Kathy and make her nickname Cat/Kat from her middle name.

Maybe, I'd use her full name (Which is gorgeous, by the way) or one of these, though:Lettie / Letty
Carlie / CarlyOr if you like Kat, use...Katariina / Katarina / Katerina / Aikaterine / Ekaterina
Katya
Kato
Katala
Katoa
KatrielI love Killian and Lucan, and Scarlett matches with them.

Hmm, I think so. Scarlett-Scat-Kat and you wouldnt want to stay on Scat long because it means poop. Works well in sibset!

I think Cat as a nn for Scarlett is a stretch and fairly contrived as well. I mean, if she just kind of fell into being called Cat because say, she liked cats, or acted like a cat, or was a climber like a cat is, that'd be one thing. But to predetermine that you want to give her a name that really has no connection with Cat, which you then plan to use to honor a Kathy? No, it just doesn't work that well.Katrina, Katherine, Kathleen, Caitlin, Catalina, Katarina, Catriona (which I hate for its over-the-top Irishness and the unnecessary O but which would definitely fit in with your sons' names) are the only names I can think of that lend themselves easily to Cat as a nn. I do know a Kristen who is called Kitty by her family.
