It does put me off it a little, because I had never heard of the name until she was hyped. When I think of Avril Lavigne, I think of an auto-tuned vocal singing the usual pop lyrics, and deliberately sloppy black eyeliner on a young white face ... and that Hot Topicky, marketed-to-the-teen-set vibe does rub off on the name Avril a little bit.
But the name is not that bad, if I can separate it from the shallow mass-marketed pop gimmicks (and Lavigne might not be that bad either, but I can't be bothered to separate her from the autotune and image marketing, to estimate whether she's talented or not). I would think it was a little phony for someone who didn't speak French to name a daughter Avril.
