Yes, I think Gwen can stand on its own. It's pretty, but for some reason I think it sounds a little "blah" to me. Plus, it reminds me of Gwen Stefani, and by extension her vaguely racist Harajuku Girls...
I prefer Blanca over Gwen. It's more classic, and was a common royal name among the Spanish monarchies at one time.

I feared the Gwen Stefani association. While I have nothing against her personally, it's not an association that I want to pop into others' minds when they hear the name Gwen. I agree that it's a little blah, but lately I've been strangely attracted to names that could be classified as having 'no frills attached'. They sound unsubstantial but yet appealing in their simplicity and shortness.
BTW, I love your icon. It lists most of my pet peeves concerning grammar and spelling, lol.
