Ziya
What do you think of the name Ziya for a girl? (prn zye-uh)
Can you think of alternative spellings?

It's completely new to me, and I find the spelling unEnglish and the zye-uh sound unconvincing. I'd imagine it was zee-uh.
It reminds me somewhat of Ziona, which I've encountered a couple of times on Jewish girls. zye OH na. If I had to use either, it'd be Ziona for sure.

I was going to say I liked it, but I only like Ziya "ZEE-uh". For ZYE-uh, I'd probably go with Zaia, Zayah, Zyah, Ziah, Ziyah? I think I like Zaia best from those, although it's probably the farthest one from Ziya.
Ziya pronounced ZYE-uh isn't very intuitive. But Ziya pronounced ZEE-uh is beautiful.
It reminds me of general Zya of Pakistan, or of the Italian word for aunt.
I would have pronounced it Zee-uh if you hadn't said differently. I don't care for it, it seems like half a name to me. Also, there was a really good Italian restaurant we used to go to called Zia's that closed down and I was told that Zia was Italian for "aunt."
Zaya or Zyah reflects your pronunciation better than Ziya, I think.

OT, but
The names of Italian restaurants abroad are just Italian, the effect for me is as if there were a restaurant called "Aunt's".

I would definitely pronounce Ziya zee-yuh, so an alternative spelling might be sensible.
Zya
Zaya
Zeyya
Zeia
But it's really pretty, and zippily warm too.

Ziya is strictly a male name to me. I pronounce it ZEE-yah. I've known a few guys with this name (all muslims, I might add). To see this on a girl would be sorta funny.
Ziah would be a bit better for a girl, because it wouldn't be such a male name to my eyes. Zeia or Zaya might work to.
