Gwen
What do you think of Gwen? Could it be used on it's own without being a nickname of something longer, like Gwendolen or Gwyneth? Which do you like better, Blanca or Gwen?

I like it better on its own than as a short form of something else. It does have a history as a name in its own right - not like naming your child Billy or Bobby. I like Gwen much better than Blanca. When I lived in Brittany I met a few Gwenns. I like it with the extra N as per Breton spelling.

Yes, I think Gwen can stand on its own. It's pretty, but for some reason I think it sounds a little "blah" to me. Plus, it reminds me of Gwen Stefani, and by extension her vaguely racist Harajuku Girls...I prefer Blanca over Gwen. It's more classic, and was a common royal name among the Spanish monarchies at one time.

I feared the Gwen Stefani association. While I have nothing against her personally, it's not an association that I want to pop into others' minds when they hear the name Gwen. I agree that it's a little blah, but lately I've been strangely attracted to names that could be classified as having 'no frills attached'. They sound unsubstantial but yet appealing in their simplicity and shortness.BTW, I love your icon. It lists most of my pet peeves concerning grammar and spelling, lol.

Hate it. It just sound ugly to me, sorry. I do not think it can stand alone, but I have a thing about nicknames as full names.I prefer Gwen, but really hate both.Sorry. :-/

Gwen is very nice. I think that it could stand on it's own just as well as be a nickname for a longer name. Gwendolen / Gwendolyn and Gwyneth are very pretty as well. I prefer Gwen over Blanca.

I prefer Gwen over Bianca one thousand times. However, I prefer both Gwendolen and Gwyneth over Gwen. But, with that said, I still think it could work well as a full name.

Love it!It's one of my favourite girl names. I definitely prefer it to Blanca, as I feel that looks too much like Bianca, which is still considered a 'trashy' name in the UK. I do think Blanca is nice though without that possible connotations.I think you could use Gwen on its own, but finding a name to go with it could be difficult; I've struggled to find one myself certainly. Of all the Gwen-related names, Gwendolyn is the nicest in my opinion if it came to that.By the way, I love your sig! I think it's hilarious.

I agree that it is very difficult trying to find a name to go with Gwen. :( Nothing sounds right, but then again, I've always found it hard to pair off a one-syllable first name.I never knew Bianca was considered trashy in the UK! Here in my part of the States, it's considered kind of exotic. What made it so trashy? Was there an unsavory character on television with the name?By the way, I love your sig! I think it's hilarious.Thank you very, very much. :) It's about to go to sig heaven, though, as I'm thinking about creating another one soon. It's so fun trying to come up with a creative signature picture, lol.

YupBasically, about ten years ago or so there was a character on EastEnders (UK soap set in London) named Bianca, and she was considered a bit trashy. So I think that affected the perception of the name here in Britain.

I think Gwen is fine on its own. I'm not too fond of Gweneth or Gwenivere. Gwendolyn is okay, its just a lot to say. I think Gwen is simple and pretty. I definately like Gwen better than Blanca. ~Arie~
