I've always loved Angelica. Happily for me I've never watched the cartoon where Angelica is a negative character. So I'm free to enjoy the soft, melodious notes of Angelica lingering in the air without an annoying pop culture reference ruining it.
Nicknames are never in your control, at least where I live. Perhaps you can when she's young. But once she hits the tween years it's all up to her -- wherever you are. She can always be Angelica to you. I still call my niece Maureen instead of Mo. (I like the nn Mo, but I love the name Maureen.)
