18th/19th C. (American) nickname listing
In randomly googling some dated-ish nicknames, I came across this list: http://www.cslib.org/nickname.htm
The source seems valid enough (at a glance, at least), and anyway I found the list itself really interesting, so I thought I'd share.
Some highlights:
Bartholomew "Bat"
Abijah "Bige"
Micajah "Cager"
Chauncey "Chan"
Cornelius "Con"
Derrick "Dirch"
Robert "Dob" / "Dobbin"
Obadiah "Dyer"
Epaphroditus "Eppa"
Nathaniel "Fanny"
Hiram "Hiley"
Aquila "Quill"
Zachariah "Rye"
Josiah or Cyrus "Si"
Obedience "Bede"
Sybrina "Briney"
Caroline "Caddy" or "Orolia"
Cleophas "Cleda"
"Delia" as a nickname for: Adelia, Bedelia, Cordelia, Fidelia, Phidelia
Damaris "Dimmis"
Fredonia "Donia"
Elinamifia "Ellen"
Ealasaid "Elsie"
Eliphal "Fally"
Relief "Leafy"
Mehitabel "Mabel"
Permelia "Mellie"
Mindwell "Mina"
Submit "Mitty"
Parthenia "Patty"
Tryphena "Phoenie" / "Pheney"
Tryphosia "Phosy"
Prudence or Philadelphia "Puss"
Asenath "Sene"
Content "Tenty"
Theresa "Thirza"
Azubah "Zubia"
WDYT?
+ Also, for some reason now I'm stuck on the idea of sisters called "Bede" and "Leafy" (but really they have obscure Puritan virtue names! but they're called Bede and Leafy! clearly there is something wrong with my brain)

I know a Caroline who goes by Caddy. I also know one who goes by Cacky. Orolia seems ridiculous, though.
Urgh. We complain all the time about modern names, but... urgh. Some of their real names are nice enough, but those nickames are, well, not, with a few exceptions.
I find the Bede and Leafy thing funny/adorable, though, and I sort of want to watch a movie about two little girls being named Bede and Leafy being raised in colonial Massachusetts, now. But maybe that's just me.

The nicknames are better then their real names.
Hmmm, I don't know; I think I'd rather be called "Prudence" than "Puss," for example
