WDYTO Gilbert?
This is not a name that I would normally be drawn to... but I can't help but like it. Is it just a guilty pleasure, or could it be used today?I think of Gilbert Blythe, but that's my only association.

I like the Anne of Green Gables Association but not the name. I don't care for the sound, and in general don't care for bert names. I quite like Gilchrist and would like to suggest it as an alternative.

I really like Gilbert and I definitely think it's usable.I think it would be adorable on a little boy and it's handsome on a grown man.

I don't like it. It sounds like a jokey name to me, like something you'd name a pet or a comedy character. My only association is the film What's Eating Gilbert Grape?

I don't like it for personal reasons. I've known only one Gilbert, and things did not go well....

Ugh. I can't come around to this name. It sounds hopelessly dorky to me. However, I'd say it's usable.

I know of a toddler Gilbert (with a sister Judy), so I definitely consider it usable. :)

Strangely enough, I find Gilbert to be quite nerdy, however, Gil is extremely masculine and er, very sexy. Overall, the name works for me. ;-)

Feel-wise, Gilbert has some mischievous charm but, sound-wise I can't love it. I like other "bert" names...Albert, Elbert, Lambert (adore him!) Robert, Bertram. Perhaps it's that Gilbert features two harder sounds with the "G" and "b", where the others combine softer sounds with "bert". With the "Gil" sound, I prefer Gilroy.

I love Gilbert! I definitely think it's usable, especially with the nickname Gil.

I'm not loving this one...

I would never want to use it, but it definitely has some charm. Fun without being geeky, old-fashioned without being totally old-man. I can see it on a modern boy.

I can't decide if I like it. I like quite a few "bert" names: Albert, Roberta - without actually liking Bert. However with Gilbert I say it with the emphasis on the -bert which makes me dislike it. It's of course another surnamey-name, I'm frankly undecided on it. :)
