Eh, I guess you're right, but I can still see Gaia and Gay sharing irritating, outdated, homophobic teasing nicknames, even if you're using "GI-yah" or "GAH-yah" rather than "GAY-ah", or possibly moreso since where I live the former two, unless you had some ethnic or cultural reason for using them, would come across as being very forced and artificial and awkward and she would probably, one way or another, still be called GAY-ah quite a lot. I don't get the analogy with Virginia, but that might just be me. It seemed to be missing the point.And aren't there several possible ways of saying Virginia as well, incidentally? Any "connotations", homophobic or not, forced or not, awkward or not, are besides the point. The name just has no charm in my eyes. I just don't find it pretty.(I also find GAY-ah the prettiest, softest, more okay of the pronunciations of a NMS name. GY-ah / GI-yah sounds like someone being kicked in the celiac plexus, and GAH-ya sounds vaguely klingon.)
