Re: Names from Russian orphanages (girl)
in reply to a message by PantheraVirgo
I love Russian names. The names I like on this list are:
Sofiya
Sabrina
Inessa
Serafima
Sentyabrina
Kseniya
Nina
Natalya
Tatyana
Yelizaveta
Polina
Irina
Diana (dee-AH-nah)
Mariya
Yelena
Zhanna
I am learning Russian so would like to correct a couple things. :)
Ульяня should be Ulyanya instead of Ulyana. If it was spelled Ульянa then it would be Ulyana.
Алена should be Alyena. If would be Alyona if spelled Алёна.
Анжелика is actually pronounced more like Anzhelica. If it had been Анджелика it would sound more like "dzhe" and thus like an Enligh soft g or j.

Haha, whoops, I speak Russian fluently - those are typos. I know Ulyana was misspelled in Russian. My bad. Алена is actually not incorrect; Russians commonly omit the dots over the /e/ that give it the /yo/ sound. Anzhelika is more correct, yes, but it's fairly analogous to Angelica, which is what I was going for.
Yeah, I figured as much with those things! Just wanted to write it just in case. :)
