It is a Medieval name for Scotland also. I named my dog on FarmVille Albany. I like it better for pets than people.

First, it's the capital of New York. But other than that, I like it!

I don't know that I'd say it's "waiting to be discovered" since it's the capital of New York and not hidden or anything like that. (Although as you point out, it could be a feminine version of Alban.)
