The Reimer in my family when he moved to the US from the border between the Netherlands and Germany changed his name to Raymond. But because of the Raymond from Everybody Loves Raymond I really dislike this name and Ray. Plus Raymond in my family and his son Raymond unfortunately had a drinking problem. It makes me sad to think of the name Raymond. Reimer was a very long held family name in my family and died when they moved to the US. Raymond as a family name died with my great grandma Ella's brother Raymond who died very young and tragically because of his alcoholism. So I would personally use Reimer but not Raymond.
Though I did recently meet a very nice Raymond. He is one of the guys I've seen twice now to ultrasound the blood clot in my leg and he is Filipino. He is my favorite person to talk when I have my blood clot checked because he is friendly, funny and fun to talk to. Though I also like this other lady who was the same age as myself.
I don't think the name Raymond sounds ugly at all, I just associate it with many negative things. You should try to look up famous Raymond's who would be positive associations. I wonder if you actually think the name is ugly or if you just don't like people you know of associated with the name? If you thought of this name in a positive light you might start to like this name.
I don't know how you feel about Rosamond / Rosamund but it reminds me of it. I personally like the name Rosamond / Rosamund.
