For me, MEE-uh is Mia (or, increasingly in Australia, Miah... urgh); MY-uh is Maya or Maia. I would also say Mya as MY-uh, but I dislike this spelling.
I think it lacks a lot of substance. I don't mind it as a nickname, but as a full first name... plus it's very popular for baby girls here. I don't get the cutesy appeal.
