I think Amy feels pretty dated, so it surprises me that it's popular elsewhere (like in the UK if I remember correctly). It's a sweet, upbeat little name though, so I can see the appeal of it.
I've known lots of Amys, the ones I can think of right now were born in the 60s (my aunt), 70s, or a few in the 80s I went to school with.
