My Dad goes by Pete as well. I like Peter but I don't really like Pete.
I like your suggestions of Ronan Peter, Finlay Peter (I do love Finlay!) and Gregory Peter. I like the idea of Rory as a nickname for Gregory, I wouldn't have thought of that!
