I do like it for a girl. Bethwick Adair S. was the first baby girl born in the American colonies to one branch of my family back around 1750. I've liked it ever since discovering that. I think Adair works well for a boy, too, since it reminds me of Fred Astaire...gives it a bit of a dapper feel.
The "a dare" sound bothers me some, so I'd only consider it as a middle name.
