I love it for a boy, and I could learn to like it on a girl. I like the sound and look. I think I'd prefer an alternate spelling on a girl... maybe Adare or Adaire or something?

Adair sound masculine to me and it comes from Edgar, so I don't like it on a girl.

The only person I've ever known with this name is a girl. She's probably about 25 now.
However, I still see it as solely masculine. I like it as a nickname for Alasdair, but I prefer it on its own.

i like it only for a boy. "Dair" souns very masculine to me. I'd go with Ada, Adele, or even Arden (boy's name, but fairly unisex these days - although i prefer that for a boy, too!) for a girl. And I don't think changing the spelling to something else like Adairre or Addayr would make it any better for a girl. I hate it when people do that! sorry. ranting. haha

I do like it for a girl. Bethwick Adair S. was the first baby girl born in the American colonies to one branch of my family back around 1750. I've liked it ever since discovering that. I think Adair works well for a boy, too, since it reminds me of Fred Astaire...gives it a bit of a dapper feel.

The "a dare" sound bothers me some, so I'd only consider it as a middle name.

I like Adair a lot- for a boy. But that's not unusual for me, since I tend to like softer names for boys. I can see it working on a girl, so sure, why not.

I know two Adairs, both female. I agree with you, it doesn't feel masculine. It's not my favorite name, but my mom loves it, lol. I think of the phrase "on a dare" when I hear it, but it's not a bad name. As far as surname names go, it's pretty great.
