Nora & Ella
If you had two girls called Eleonora and Madalena you would probably choose nicknames for them.
Would it then be weird to call Eleonora "Nora" and Madalena "Ella", considering that Ella is also known as a nickname for Eleonora?

I really like Eleonora "Nora" and Madalena, but Madalena "Ella" seems like too much of a stretch. I think that Lena and Alena make more sense as nicknames for Madalena. There's also Ada. Using a different nickname for Madalena would eliminate the confusion regarding Ella and Eleonora.
I think it's a problem that if you called them, putting Madalena first, you'd get something that sounds uncomfortably close to Eleonora's proper name: "Ella! Nora!" It also doesn't help that Ella isn't an intuitive nickname for Madalena, but it fits Eleonora like a glove.
So, yes, I guess I do think it would be weird. Eleonora and Madalena are cute for sisters, but I think Madalena needs a different nickname.

That is a very good point. "Ella! Nora!" sounds too much like Eleonora.
I think it would be a little strange to have Eleonora and then Ella as a nickname for something else. I don't really think Ella works as a nickname for Madalena anyway, it doesn't have an "el" sound in it. Lena or Maddy would be better in my opinion.
If Ella was an obvious nn for both then no I don't think so but I don't see Ella as a nn for Madelena.
I'd use Maddy, Lena or Lainey.
