Madison
My 8mo old grandddaughter is named Madison and it's really grown on me. I think I've gotten over the "Madi" nickname, don't like it at all. I think Madison is probably becoming overused to a lot of people, but I love it on my grandbaby. I see it as unique to her.

but it's not
but it's not
I like Madison, too. I think it's cute.
Hmm, I really do like this name. But ever since learning that it was originally a male name and having the '-son' prefix pointed out to me, I can't help but think it would just be better on a little boy. It's a masculine name for sure to me.
Well, it's my name so I can't hate. But I do think it's terribly overused at the moment
I agree that it's overused. I used to hate it with a flaming passion, but my attitude towards Madison softened after Melanie Brown named her most recent daughter that.
LOL, I used to hate it with a flaming passion too. I think I've just accepted that at this point it would be weird trying to win it back for the boys so I give up. I'm never thrilled to see it used, but I'm not angry anymore, just indifferent.
I've not been able to beat them, so I'm joining up. :-)

Noooo!
Don't give up! Keep fighting the good fight! All these boys names being used on girls need to be reclaimed! And this is coming from a female Madyson who would happily name a son Whitney, Blair, Aubrey, Avery, Sidney, Morgan, etc..... :)

People are allowed their own opinions.
Not everyone wants to see tons of boys named Whitney, Blair, Aubrey, Avery, Sidney, Morgan, etc.

LOL, I'm still fighting!! But With Madison, I just feel that people think "girl" immediately when they hear it. It's gone too far. Maybe one day, when it has dropped from popularity it can be re-claimed. Until then I will lay in wait! lol!
Madison is a GP to me. It is trendy and overused and I hate the meaning but I still think it sounds cute. I would only use it for a pet.
Well, it's great that you like it and it feels unique to you because you associate it with your granddaughter, but it's a fact it's very popular and hence far from unique.
It grew on me as well - or at least I stopped hating it and started thinking it was decent, when I made friends with the mother of a baby Matison my daughter's age. (Pronounced like Madison) I don't like Madi either, but I guess it can't be avoided, and it's not awful.
Madison has been less used than Melissa, Heather, Jennifer, Jessica, and Amy were. It'll probably seem overused about at the same level as Lori, Megan, or Hannah.

It won't be more dated than those got, either - not as dated as Brittany, which pretty much pegs a woman's birth as being within 5 years of 1990.
Congrats on the grandchild.

Thanks mirfak! Thats a great comparison. I definitly can't see Madison being as overused as Heather or Amy. I see a Hannah/Madison generational connection between my baby and grandbaby, it's very amusing to me.
You pegged Brittany! I was going to say I bet tons of strippers used Brittany/Britney in the late 90's.

I kind of got a kick out of comments like, "Madison sounds like a spoiled brat" etc. The stripper thing I think could be applied to any really trendy girls name.
Off topic but I named my daughter Hannah Jessamine back in 1989. She loathes her middle name, lol. Oh well. I really liked Jessica back then, but it was too popular and in that old book Beyond Jennifer and Jason, it suggested Jessamine as an alternative. Hannah had a Madison and so it goes with trendy names! I love the Splash connection thought, I loved that silly little movie. !0
