Re: Challenge, finding full names for nicknames and spelling survey
in reply to a message by Lily
I like Ally as a nn for Alexa. It could be cute for something like Dalia too, but it's harder to think of names with an "al" sound in the middle off the top of my head. Alyssia bothers me because it feels slippery. Like you might fall off while you're saying it :PI like Penny by itself! Maybe as a nickname for Priscilla? I think it's a nice balance to the, well, prissiness of Priscilla, although I do love the name.Charlie I don't like on a girl. One of those names that I love on a boy and it just makes me sad when it's used on girls. I don't think Charlene is trashy though.I really like Jessamine, nn Jessie. Jessamine classes it up, I think. Other than, maybe Jasmine? I think Jessie would be a better nn than Jazzie, or Jaz.In regard to word names, I tend to just like what I'm most familiar with. So I like Brooke and Skye, but not Raine. I don't really like Rain either, actually, so that might be a bad example. But... when I see/hear Brooke and Skye I think, "oh, the parents liked that name" rather than "oh, the parents wanted a nature name". With Rain/Raine I get the nature name impression either way. Hmm.Aquinnah - 3, it makes me think of Aquafina. Like, "Try Aquinnah, the new Aquafina!"
Estella - 8, I ever so slightly prefer Estelle
Emmeline - 5, I find em-a-line more awkward to say than em-a-leen
Shea - 6, prefer it as a boy's name, but it's alright
Cleo - I don't even know, my aunt and uncle's dog is named this and I think it might be permastuck as a pet's name in my mind
Skye - 6, Sky - 4
Brooke - 6, Brook - 3
Keeley/ Keely - 4, makes me think of keeling over
Phoebe - 7
Esther - 6
The nickname I want a full name for is Jed. I like Josiah but wouldn't use it, and don't like Jedidiah at all.

I love Jed. I have a cousin and a doctor with this as a full name, so I see it on its own. Maybe Jared.

For Jed, maybe Jarred or some variant thereof?
