Minerva
A girl in my math class is named Minerva. That's not exactly a name you hear everyday! I'm not too fond the name's sound, but I like the feeling it evokes. It makes me think of someone who is fiery and brainy -- which makes sense when one considers the mythological namesake. For some reason, I also imagine a redhead when I think of the name.Any thoughts?

I really like it. It was the name of one of my great-great-great grandmothers. I also worked with a girl named Minerva. I like that it is sort of unusual, yet kind of a classic at the same time.

Maggie Smith- aka Prof. McGonnagall. Also fiery and brainy- in a Griffendor sort of way. I found a distant relative named that. Meeting people with that name definitely makes it feel more usable.

It's my favorite!
I see it as a brunette name but I can also see it on a redhead.
It's so snippy and no-nonsense!

Neat! I've never met a RL Minerva. I don't really like the name (I think it's the "erv" sound that tanks it for me), but I do like the associations it brings to my mind. It's definitely a strong, distinctive name.

Awesome! I love the name Minerva (although I like Athena better). It makes me think of a brunette but I can picture it on a redhead too. Fiery and brainy is exactly what it's like! And she could also go by Min if she wanted...

I love Minerva, it's been high in my top ten for a long while now. I especially like the nickname Mina with it. Minerva Eirlys is my go to combo.

I'd be so stoked to meet a Minerva! It's definitely one of those names you don't think you'll run in to in 'real life'. So cool!

Something about the sound of it grates on me... It sounds really annoying and whiny for some reason.

I have to agree with you. I like my associations but the sound bugs me (I think it's the "ner" syllable).

I like it. I don't know if it's the goddess association, but I always imagine a Minerva to be tall, impressively upright, snarkily intelligent and maybe a bit scary. I also think of her surrounded by boiling clouds of steam - but that's definitely the goddess association, via the Minerva Sulis shrine at Bath.:)

Makes me think of Harry Potter. I'd prefer Mina. And I imagine an old witch when I hear it ;)
