Released today: Swedish name statistics 2011!
Although I don't understand why they release them this early - in Sweden you have three months to name you child, meaning there must be lots of still unnamed October, November and December babies!
Official press release:
Alice took back first place of first names given to girls in 2011. Maja came in second place, a step down from last year's number one name for girls. William once again topped the list for the most popular names for boys. Oscar, the number one name for boys in 2010, was beaten by both William and Lucas.

And unlike last year I managed to find the lists in English this time. :)

My thoughts
Girls:
- First of all, it's really a top 102 since three names share 100th place.
- Sigrid and Victoria aren't really new, but returners. I suppose Hilma and Rut are too, but there are no lists from when they were last popular. ;) I approve of all four.
- Sad to see Kajsa gone, it's cute. But Novalie's out too, yay!
- Josefine's spelling in the list has changed from Josefine to Josefin, because they always write the most common spelling on the list and that has changed! Nice, I like Josefin better. :)
- Freja hasn't only jumped, but two new spellings have appeared at the 10+ list: Freija and Freyja, in addition to Freja and Freya.
- Minna seems to be the new Vilma.
- Maria is doomed! And when it falls off the list, it will probably be the first time in centuries!
- Bodil, Gerda, Adèle, Franka, Ilona, Vilhelmina, Valeria and Lola passing the 10+ line for the first time makes me smile. :)
- Hailie, Haylie, Zoey and Tiara doing the same doesn't ...
- My niece was certainly not the only Judit last year, it's gone from 17 Judit and 38 Judith in 2010 to 26 Judit and 64 Judith.
- My cousin's daughter has helped Lilo pass the 10+ border for the first time.

So interesting to see Elsa, Ella, Ebba, and Emma all in the top ten!
Thanks for posting these links, there's a lot of inspiration for short and clear names.

My thoughts:
Ladies:
* Glad to see that Astrid went from #29 to #30. It's going in the right direction!
* Sara went from #38 to #36, but the number of baby Saras are lower than 2010. Also, interesting to see that Sara is still clinging on. I haven't heard of a baby Sara in years.
* I predicted last year that Isabelle and Isabella would continue to climb on the list. I seem to have been right about Isabelle. So now I predict that it will enter the top 10 this year.
* Holy crap, Freja and Minna.
* Yay, Rut and Sigrid!
Lads:
* I'm so sick of William and Lucas.
* Yay, Alexander and Elias are dropping!
* Vidar?! NOOOOOOO!
* Glad to see that nicknamey names are falling (Theo, Alex, Tim, Max) and that more old fashioned names are rising (Nils, August, Ivar, Tage, Frank, Wilhelm) .

Yes, it's kind of weird that they already released the statistics. Maybe they will update it later on.
Anyway, I'm not happy to se August gaining popularity. From #83 to #71 :(
And Ellen is #20 and Astrid is #30 but at least they're both stable.
The new names are interesting: Edward, Tage, Hilma, Rut, Sigrid and Victoria. I'm mostly surprised by Rut and Victoria. Victoria seems a bit dated (it was popular in the 80's, if I'm not mstaken) and Rut is just so much old lady that I can't really imagine a baby named Rut.
ETA: Hm...interesting, Tage and Hilma are not in the database.
