Chanel
Chanel is my favorite name for a baby girl and I was thinking of using it for a child one day. I would like to know all of your opinions on it, and if you have any good middle names to go with it.

And one more suggestion...What would be extraordinarily classy:Marie-Chantal. I have ALWAYS adored that pairing.

I can't support Chanel. Naming babies after luxury items is unadvisable and widely considered to be low class. I suggest you consider Chantal--I think it is far better, and it has similar sounds to Chanel.

... and not as hollow a meaning either... :-P (that will make more sense if you look at the meaning of Chanel)

I don't like it, but it's a matter of personal taste for me.

I'm sorry. No.It's just so tacky. Naming your kid after a luxury brand SCREAMS "trashy" and it will be a difficult name to live with. And on top of that, it means "pipe?!" No. Just absolutely no. I would suggest some similar sounding names instead:Chantal
Chandra
Carmel
Camille
Clarisse
Charisse
Charlize
Charlotte
Shani
ShantiI also suggest Coco or Gabrielle, other names tied to the designer, if that's what you're inspired by.

Um.I hate it. It's my name, and it is not a easy or nice name to live with. I wish I had a professional and classy name.

Aw... have you ever thought about changing it?
vote up1
Yes, but don't think I would. My dad chose it, and loves it.

My first thought when I see or hear it is the perfume... not exciting. Meaning is rather neutral and boring. The gal I know w/ the name is rather pleasant, so it doesn't have a bad image aside from being completely uninterested in having kids sound like a perfume commercial.

It's not my style, but it's ok. Chanel Elizabeth, Chanel Mireiella, Chanel Georgiana?Another Chan- name is Chanda or Chandra..

I dislike it because it's a brand name. But what about:
Shanae
Shana
Shanene
Shanice
Shannon
Shoshana
Chantelle
Any of those strike your fancy?

Chantelle and Shoshana are cool.

I think it's extremely tacky to name a child after a brand. Why not Chantal or Shannon or something similar? From your PNL, these names are solid: Athena, Cora, Daisy, Daphne, Eve, Fiona, Hazel, Iris, Juliet, June, Luna, Phoebe, Ruby, Scarlet, Tabitha, Violet.

Chantal IS way better than Chanel.

Or Chantelle. Chantal looks tacky to me too for some reason.

Why does Chantal look tackier than Chantelle when Chantal is the standard spelling and Chantelle is the variant. I think I like Chantelle better, but it just seems a little ironic in the situation.

I don't know, it's just my gut reaction on seeing the name. :P I know a few Chantelles but no Chantals, so maybe I'm biased because of that...
vote up1
Maybe... but if you were around native Fr. speakers, maybe you'd know some with the Chantal spelling.

Yup. Brand names or names that sound like they should be a brand name are right out.

One wordNO! Why not Gabrielle, her real name?
vote up1
But...can you really assume she like Chanel because of Coco Chanel? Maybe she just likes the name because of the way it sounds and looks and then it's kind of pointless to suggest Gabrielle.
